Data Extraction, Visualization, and Storytelling: A Case Study in Headline Analysis on "The Hongkong News" with Deep Learning

This paper presents the methodologies to extract headline and illustrations from a historical newspaper for storytelling support digital scholarship. It explored ways in which new tools can facilitate understanding of content setting time space, "The Hongkong News" was selected Hong Kong Early Tabloid Newspaper case study owing its uniqueness value towards scholars. The proposed were evaluated OCR (Optical Character Recognition) with scraping Deep Learning Object Detection models. Two visualization products developed showcase feasibility our methods serve purpose.
